Broll Property Academy

Established in 2002 with the aim of improving the skills of Broll staff members, the Broll Academy was the first of its kind providing inhouse training for employees in the commercial, retail and industrial property sectors. Our goal continues to be lifelong learning for our employees.

Most employees who have completed Academy courses have been from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The training has helped them improve performance and advance their careers within the Group.

Academy courses empower employees to:

  • Become more productive in the workplace
  • Grow in confidence
  • Maximise their long-term potential within the Group

The Academy has associations with a variety of accredited training providers which provide a wide spectrum of both long and short courses.

These include:

  • Introduction to Property Principles
  • Property Management Programme
  • Certificate in Shopping Centre Management
  • Advanced Certificate in Shopping Centre Management
  • Soft-skills courses including time management, report writing etc.

As part of our efforts to improve the skills of our employees and develop candidates within the property industry, we’ve introduced two new training programmes – internships and learnerships.

The Intern programme

As a member of the Services SETA we qualify for a skills-development grant which helps us offer programmes such as these internships. We welcomed our first two interns in 2008 and the programme has swiftly grown year on year.

We identify university graduates from various property courses and place them on a fast-track process in various service departments within Broll. We aim to develop our interns to a point where we can offer them positions that best fit their skills and personality.

The Learnership programme

We started offering learnership programmes to both current employees and unemployed candidates in 2008.

A learnership is a year-long course emphasising on-the-job learning and combines education and training with work experience. A team leader, supervisor or line manager mentors the candidates in the workplace.

Working together with Services SETA and Boston City Campus, the aim of the programme is to widen the skills base in the property industry. The project is spearheaded by a dedicated facilitator.

Broll hosts the following learnership qualifications:

  • Business Administration
  • Customer Management
  • Information Technology
  • Management
